Welcome to Kujali 2.0!

Welcome to Kujali’s new website!  Thanks so much for visiting.  We invite you to explore the new interface, catch up on the latest news, and learn about ways you can get involved with our work.  Special thanks to Jonathan Kalan of puravidaphotos.com, Josh Wexelbaum, and David Lipps for your help!

We’ve been eagerly awaiting and diligently preparing for the launch of our new site; and with it, we want to make a pledge to you.  As supporters and friends of Kujali, we want you to know how our work is progressing, how our kids are doing, and how your gifts and support are making an impact — at any time on any given day.

So this is our pledge to you.

We’re going to share our plans with you, as well as our planning process, here on this site, and invite you to join us all along the way.  We’re going to feature student stories and project spotlights regularly on our new Blog Page and Media Page, so you can see your impact as clearly as we do.  And we’re going to be as transparent about our successes as we are about our needs, and offer simple, straightforward ways that you can help, if you’re inspired to do so — on our Live Giving Page.

We welcome your questions, your involvement, your ideas, and your partnership.  And we thank you for helping us come this far:

  • 95 students are provided with safe housing, healthcare, secondary education, and enriched extra-curricular programming everyday.
  • 18 local staff are working tirelessly for our kids, provided training through Kujali capacity-building initiatives, and equipped with tools, resources, and methodologies to strengthen impact;
  • HOCET Secondary School (HSS) is the first free, private boarding school in Mkuranga, Tanzania for orphaned and vulnerable youth, composed of 6 classrooms, a library, a kitchen, student and staff housing, and a science laboratory underway;
  • HSS is the only solar-powered school in the region, features projects in animal husbandry and horticulture, and sits on 300 acres of land, with a new solar-based initiative designed to bring power to the community in 2011;
  • Kujali’s has facilitated cross-cultural learning, travel, and English Language learning opportunities for 2 HSS students through our Study Abroad Program, with plans to continue Kujali Study Abroad in 2012;
  • After 5 years of volunteer service, our Founder and President Sydney Schaef, M.Ed., has transitioned to full-time work in Tanzania to help carry our vision forward.

You have made all of this possible.  We thank you for your generosity and for your belief in our mission, in our students, and in all that our kids are capable of accomplishing in their lives.  To us, we’ve only just begun this journey together.

With gratitude,

The Kujali Team
