They made it! Team Climb for Kujali 2011

Congratulations to our Climb for Kujali 2011 Team for an incredible journey!

This year’s second annual Climb for Kujali event took us to new heights.  A team of 13 climbers, made up of teachers, fitness trainers, high school students, businesswomen and men, engineers, and the like, together generated over $120,000 to support the work of Kujali.

The group jumpstarted their ten-day trip with an overnight adventure to HOCET Secondary School, 60km outside of Dar-es-Salaam.  The CFK Team arrived with bags full of donated sports equipment and gifts for the students – it was only a matter of minutes before students and climbers got to work setting up volleyball nets, kicking footballs around, and swinging new baseball bats.

After a welcome assembly, campus tour, and delicious Tanzanian meal, HSS students put on an incredible talent show for their guests: music, dance, drama, and more!  Then late in the evening around a beautiful bonfire, the music and dancing continued — and one special treat was thrown into the mix: the climbers taught our students how to make s’mores.  That Hersey’s chocolate came a long way…

The next morning, students gathered in the multi-purpose hall for an interactive Career Fair put on the by the Climb for Kujali 2011 Team.  Discussion, laughter, and thoughtful questions made for a fun and enriching time as students gained a little more exposure to the world of possibilities that awaits them.  Jess in Marketing; Erica Marie in Entertainment; Lia and Writing; Paul in Sound Engineering; the USLI crew in Business & Insurance; Ryan and Sean in Preparing for College, Michael in Starting a Small Business, and so on….it inspired such interest.

Then the team turned back to Dar-es-Salaam, and was soon on their way to Moshi for the 6-day trek to Africa’s highest peak.  You can check out photos from their trip here! And finally, read “Lauren’s Journal” – a personal story that provides a glimpse into one participant’s experience this summer with us in Tanzania:

To the Team: Our heartfelt thanks goes to you for your incredible support, generosity, and dedication!  We loved hosting you and hope your trip was as memorable as your visit was for us!
