We are excited to announce the opening of our Community Solar Kiosk in the village of Shungubweni! With the support of the Waterloo Foundation, and in partnership with SolarAid Tanzania, students of HSS have opened the doors of the first solar kiosk in Shungubweni Village that provides low-cost solar products, phone charging services, and a barber shop to the community!
The purpose of the project was threefold: to provide an opportunity for our students to gain real-world experience in an entrepreneurial start-up business; to create a sustainable source of revenue for HSS; and to offer quality, low-cost and eco-friendly solar energy products to the community members surrounding our school. The opening of the Solar Kiosk was met with great enthusiasm by village members, who now enjoy low-cost phone-charging, fresh buzz cuts, and affordable solar products that replace the need for kerosene lamps in the home.
We look forward to keeping you posted on the progress & impact of the Community Solar Kiosk!
