A reflection from field team member, Abdulrahim Chotta, after his visit to Don Bosco – a well-known local vocational training program that provides affordable courses & certifications, as well as job placement services to vulnerable youth in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania:
On 13th November 2013 I visited Don Bosco Oyster Bay Vocational training in Dar Es Salaam for the purpose of learning how this vocational training is being operated.
My visit was honored by Don Bosco staff’s after my introduction; quickly they prepared a small meeting with their Marketing Officer, Job placement Officer and me. I gave them details information about the Kujali’s New school program and also they give me a lot of information about Don Bosco Vocational training. We had a lot in common and we agree to cooperate by sharing ideas in some areas, especially our Counseling Program and Continuous Learning Program for the coming days.
They are very excited with our program and real encouraged with our work towards this vulnerable group of youth. Also they are expecting my invitation to our New School Center & headquarters at the end of January 2014 or early February.
Benefits gained from my visit to Don Bosco:
1. I managed to establish a relationship with them since they agreed to cooperate with us, and they are now a part of our growing professional network in Dar-es-Salaam.
2. Using the experience of their Job Placement Office, we are expecting to learn more on how they manage to increase the number of job placements while we face the challenge of unemployment for youth.
3. We were reminded of how important it will be to encourage our youth to pursue careers which will have a direct impact on national development – especially vocational skills which will also reduce our burden of depending to be employed.
4. We will have a great advantage in empowering youth under our Seed Capital Program through vocational training because it will take us a short time to reach our vision.
I real appreciate them and the honored they gave me. I learnt a lot from them, I believe that we are in the same truck.
Thank You!
