Let's reimagine grade-level standards as the way to define success.

Standards have shaped all aspects of our K-12 system. From state accountability systems to daily instruction, everything flows back to grade-level standards. But as currently written, they're a barrier to meaningful, measurable learning for all.

It's time to redesign academic standards.

Since there adoption in 2011, national standard frameworks have not contributed to improved student outcomes–and they do not reflect the research on learning. There's a better way to create and communicate what success looks like.

At Kujali, we advocate for an improved set of K-12 learning outcomes that includes these five research-backed features:

Members of our team have been leading the field in designing innovative learning outcome frameworks.

Our team has over a decade of experience developing innovative learning outcome frameworks at the school, district, and state level.

Most recently, our founder, Dr. Sydney Schaef, served as lead architect of the Future9 Competencies—a free and open source framework published by reDesign (2024)—that has been featured on Getting Smart and the Big Ideas in Education podcast.

Kujali is currently seeking funding partners to help redesign K-12 learning outcomes.

Let's connect and explore ways we can shatter opportunity barriers by designing and scaling better definitions of success.
