Last year, we built a kitchen at HOCET Secondary School to replace the traditional hut that was in use before. How about a before and after photo?
Until this month, the school’s Cook, Hussein, has been preparing food with firewood, as many people do in rural Tanzania. The open flames produce a tremendous amount of smoke and heat; it isn’t efficient, it certainly isn’t eco-friendly, and it has been really tough on Hussein and on his health.
So there’s good news. First Assembly of God of Gainesville, FL just sponsored the purchase and installation of two heat-efficient ENO stoves at HSS! I’ve never seen (or felt) so much enthusiasm over kitchen equipment. Think: less firewood, less heat, less smoke, fewer health risks, lower costs, and a happier Hussein.
Special thanks to the First Assembly of God community for sponsoring this project, and to ENVOTECH-Tanzania, for building us two fantastic stoves!
